UPDATE: Lawrence County Commissioner Faces Domestic Violence Charge

IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The Lawrence County Commissioner charged with misdemeanor domestic violence pleaded not guilty to the charge Thursday.

Les Boggs, 51, of Ironton, entered the not guilty plea during a hearing in Ironton Municipal Court. A pretrial hearing on the charge was set for February 21.

The charge is the result of an alleged assault at Bogg’s home in Ironton on Monday.

According to the incident report filed by Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies, Mrs. Bogg’s claimed that her husband assaulted her by pulling her hair and then took her cell phone during an argument.

Deputies said there was no sign of any physical struggle and Mrs. Boggs received no injuries during the incident.

The report also indicates the couple is in the process of getting a divorce.

A felony charge of third-degree disrupting public service was dropped during the hearing.

IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Lawrence County Commissioner Les Boggs was arrested on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge Monday night, according to Sheriff Jeff Lawless

According to a press release from Sheriff Jeff Lawless, deputies responded to a 911 call at a residence in the 200-block of CR 181 in Ironton about 4:30 p.m. Monday.

The Sheriff says Bogg’s wife told deputies that her husband assaulted her. Mrs. Boggs later signed a criminal complaint.

According to the incident report filed by deputies, Mr. Bogg’s pulled his wife’s hair during the incident, then grabbed her cell phone from her purse and left the house. Deputies said there was no sign of any physical struggle and she received no injuries during the incident.

Mr. Boggs was not at the house when deputies arrived, but returned to the residence as deputies were finishing their investigation.

Lawless says deputies took Mr. Boggs into custody. He was taken to the Lawrence County Jail where he posted bond after being booked for first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence and third-degree felony disrupting public service.

The report also indicates the couple is in the process of getting a divorce.
