SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A man accused of using a toy plastic gun to rob a gas station was caught before he could even spend the money he had taken.
Mathew McFarland, 22, was arrested and charged with armed robbery.
The robbery happened about 6:40 p.m. At the Marathon Gas Station along Route 52 in South Point, Ohio.
Sheriff's deputies say McFarland pretended to shop until other customers left the store. They say he then pulled out the gun and demanded money.
Deputies say McFarland grabbed the cash register and tried to remove it from the counter, but it overturned and he grabbed some cash.
When he was found, McFarland admitted to the robbery, handed over the cash and said he used a toy plastic gun. However, deputies have not located the gun.
McFarland has been taken to the Lawrence County Jail and will be arraigned Monday.
