ATHENS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A man from Licking County, Ohio, was arrested Wednesday on meth-related charges after a traffic stop on U.S. 33 near Stimson Avenue in Athens, according to information from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.
Jeffery Johnson, 37, of Heath, Ohio, was charged with possession of meth.
Deputies say Johnson was a passenger in a vehicle traveling from Newark, Ohio, to Meigs County. They say he claimed ownership of a backpack containing drug paraphernalia that included pipes, snort tubes, scales and baggies containing a white powder residue. A K-9 unit helped lead deputies to the backpack.
The powdery residue tested positive for meth.
Johnson was taken to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
