GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A man who was a person of interest in a homicide investigation in Gallia County has now been charged with murder.
Wednesday, David Brewster, 44, of Gallia County, was set to appear in Gallia County Municipal Court on a theft charge in connection with the case. Prior to the hearing, he was also charged with murdering Daniel Day.
Day, 29, was found dead in his home on Clay Chapel Road in Gallia County on April 8.
Two days later, Brewster was arrested and charged with theft, accused of taking Day's truck.
According to the criminal complaint filed Wednesday, Day and Brewster had been in contact in the days prior to Day's death. The Sheriff's Office says that Day and Brewster had an ongoing dispute, believed to be over property.
According to the complaint, the day of the murder, Day's family called his cell phone and Brewster answered.
An acquaintance told investigators that Brewster contacted her and asked for a ride, indicating to her that he was a suspect in Day's death. When she asked him what was going on, according to the criminal complaint, he made a statement to her that he "killed that guy."
A witness told investigators they saw Brewster driving Day's truck and that truck was found on the property where Brewster had been picked up.
When Brewster was arrested, he had a gun that belonged to Day in his possession.
In a pretrial hearing Wednesday, Brewster's case was bound over to the grand jury.
The cause of death has not been released at this time.
