PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A Portsmouth man was convicted Wednesday of beating a man and stealing his wallet.

A Scioto County jury deliberated less than an hour before finding Christopher Erks, 33, guilty of aggravated robbery and felonious assault.

Prosecutors say the attack happened on July 6, 2013 in the 1400 block of 14th Street in Portsmouth.

Following the verdict, Judge Howard Harcha sentenced Erks to 13 years and three months in prison.

Harcha cited Erks' extensive criminal record for the sentence.
