JACKSON COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A man was sentenced to three years in prison for a meth-related offense, according to information from Jackson County Prosecutor Justin Lovett's office.

Cory Smith of Stockdale, Ohio, was sentenced for the illegal possession or assembly of chemicals for manufacture of drugs, which occurred in June 2013.

More specifically, the charge deals with the gathering of materials used to cook methamphetamine.

The Jackson Police Department responded to a report of suspicious activity inside a vehicle parked in the parking lot of a local business. When officers arrived to that location, initial surveillance of the vehicle’s activity led officers to suspect drug activity.

In the investigation that followed, officers discovered Smith, the driver, was involved with collecting chemicals used in the manufacture of methamphetamine from multiple stores. As a result, in June 2013, Smith was indicted on one felony count.

Smith pleaded guilty to that charge.

According to Prosecutor Lovett, Smith is currently in custody in the London Correctional Institution in London, Ohio.
