UPDATE 3/12/14 @ 9:15 a.m.
PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – The family of 34-year-old Gary Runyon says he has been found in Charleston, W.Va.
Gary's stepfather, Daniel Auvil, called WSAZ.com Wednesday morning to say that Gary called home about 1 a.m. to say he was in Charleston.
Family members have picked him up and are now taking him to the doctor to be checked out.
Runyon has mental health issues and needs his medication, according to his family.
Auvil says that Gary told family member that he took a cab to Charleston. He also said he had been out west to Denver and Las Vegas.
The family of 34-year-old Gary Runyon says he has mental health issues and needs his medication.
"Until you experience it for yourself, you don't know how you'd take something like this,” Gary’s stepfather Danny Auvil said. “As each day goes by, it's devastating."
Gary’s mother Della Auvil says he often takes long walks, but he walked out of their home in Hardy last Tuesday with a backpack, and hasn't been seen since.
"Gary isn't well,” Della said. “He's confused in his mind."
She says her son hasn't been the same since returning from military boot camp 10 years ago.
"I thought OK, he'll be back in a couple days. But as time went on, I knew I had to call the Kentucky State Police because I felt like something wasn't right."
KSP troopers are investigating, and neighbors have been combing the area for Gary.
Della started a “Prayers for Gary” Facebook page to spread the word. She's begging everyone to keep their eyes open.
"I'm not trying to tell him what to do,” she said. “I want to know if he's safe."
The family got a tip that a person matching Gary's description was seen in South Point, Ohio.
Gary's stepfather drove there Monday and searched. He also looked in Huntington, but had no luck.
The latest picture of Gary shows him with a beard, but Della shared that he was clean shaven when he was last seen.
