IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Ironton welcomed a new restaurant to town -- part of a much bigger economic boost, city leaders say.
Frisch's Big Boy opened its doors early Monday morning to a robust crowd.
Darren Driskell, executive manager of Big Boy, said the restaurant has offered the same high-quality meals at competitive prices. He also said the restaurant is great for the area and is the closest one in 75 miles.
Nearly 120 people have been hired to get things up and running, and more employees will be hired as needed.
The Holiday Inn Express and Suites Hotel, which is attached to the Big Boy, is set to open later this year. It will have 79 rooms.
The hotel and restaurant are the first in the "Ironton Gateway Center Project" on 9th Street to revitalize that part of the city.
