SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Strap on your helmet, lower your eye shield and fire up your torch. It may sound like something out of a science fiction movie but its actually the latest technology in teaching.

Wednesday, Edison Welding Institute demonstrated the latest technology in welding training to leaders and trainers in manufacturing. It's hands on welding instruction with a virtual instructor giving you immediate feedback on your performance.

Henry Cialone is the CEO of the Edison Welding Institute and says this new device actually monitors your actions as you're welding and speaks to you in the helmet if you're going too fast, need to lean more or if your angle is correct. The computer measures and monitors a student's performance but doesn't replace an actual instructor.

"The instructor knows how to improve on these things. What the trainee gets while the trainer is working with a number of other trainees is immediate feedback, am I doing right or wrong," Cialone said.

The Real World Trainer is being presented to companies across the country.

Wednesday's demonstration was held at EWI in the Point Industrial Park in South Point, Ohio.
