GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The Ohio Highway Patrol says a driver that ran a stop sign and hit a police cruiser has been cited for failure to stop.
The accident happened about 6 p.m. Tuesday at the corner of Second Avenue and Sycamore Street in Gallipolis.
OHP says Kyle Riley, 24, of Longbottom, Ohio ran a stop sign on Sycamore Street and hit a cruiser driven by Gallipolis Police Lt. Matt Champlin.
Gallipolis Police Chief Clinton Patterson says Riley told officers he was not familiar with the area.
Lt. Champlin's K9 partner PSD Kris was also in the cruiser.
Riley, his passenger, and both officers were not hurt in the crash.
Gallipolis Police Lt. Matt Champlin and his K-9 partner Kris were in the cruiser, but both escaped injury.
A driver who was not familiar with the area ran a stop sign and hit the cruiser. Two people were in the vehicle at fault. They also escaped injury.
Ohio Highway Patrol troopers are investigating. No other information is being released at this time.
