Pair Arrested on Heroin Charges in West Portsmouth

WEST PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Two people have been arrested on heroin charges following a raid on West Portsmouth residence.

Members of the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force raided the house in the 800-block of John Street Wednesday night, according Scioto County Sheriff Marty Donini and Portsmouth Police Chief Robert Ware.

Sheriff Donini says task force officers seized approximately 48 grams of heroin, more than $3,700 in cash, a handgun, digital scales, and additional evidence related to drug trafficking.

Phillip N. Summers, 30, of the John St. address, and Samuel J. Smith, 33, of Dayton, Ohio were arrested and charged with trafficking in heroin, and possession of heroin.

Summers and Smith were taken to the Scioto County Jail.
