UPDATE 5/3/13 @ 11:20 p.m.
GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A burglar learned the hard way to mess with a veteran, especially one packing a loaded shotgun.
Carl Wray says he wasn't about to let his home in the Crown City area fall victim to a thief, so he simply reverted back to his Vietnam days.
“I thought my wife was letting the dogs out,” Wray said. “But I didn't see no dogs. I didn't see no wife."
But what he did see in the dark of night at his home in Gallia County was someone who didn't belong there.
"He tried to move past me, and I took the gun barrel and hit him in the ribs and knocked him into the bathtub,” Wray said. “He started to move, and I told him if he moved one more time, you're dead."
Sheriff's deputies showing up may have been a relief to suspect Nathan Unroe -- also from Gallia County -- still in the bathtub under Wray's watchful eye. They presume he was in search of prescription pills but only found trouble instead.
Tough-talking neighbors say they’re ready for anything in their community.
"I have a gun for my wife's protection,” neighbor Paul Martin said. “But I'd just beat the hell out of you with a ball bat or something."
Unroe, 26, was arrested and taken to the Gallia County Jail -- charged with felony burglary.
The incident happened at a home on State Route 7 South in the Crown City area.
Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning says Nathan Unroe, 26, was arrested about 1 a.m. Friday.
According to the criminal complaint, the homeowner was sleeping on the couch when he woke up and found Unroe in the bathroom.
The man told deputies he then grabbed his shotgun and when Unroe tried to run away, he punched Unroe with the muzzle of the gun.
The homeowner then held Unroe at gunpoint until deputies got to the house.
Deputies say Unroe had broken in through a back door that had been wired shut.
Deputies say when they asked Unroe what he was doing there, he said he was walking home, that he lives a couple of miles down the road. He also told deputies he didn't know anyone at the home.
Unroe is being held in the Gallia County Jail on a burglary charge.
