UPDATE: Missing Man with Down Syndrome Found

UPDATE 6/30/14 @ 5:55 p.m.
SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- It was a sigh of relief for a family in Scioto County, after a loved one was found safe.

Dale White, 47, went missing Sunday afternoon.

Family members said he has Down syndrome and diabetes, and that made the search an even more dire situation.

Hours of searching in the air and on the ground, as well as a feeling of fear, all turned into celebration as Dale White was found safe.

"We've all been looking since, I got here around 9 o'clock last night," said Dale's sister, Stacie White.

Dozens of people in Minford joined the search for Dale.

Family members said he has Down syndrome and diabetes, and that made the search a matter of life or death.

"He's my brother. I mean, we all love him and we all care for, so we just want him back home," White said.

His sister's wish came true nearly 24 hours after he vanished.

"They found him up on the ridge, right back here, and he was almost to the top of the ridge, but he was sitting down," White said.

Family members shared a moment of relief, as crews came down from the ridge, pulled Dale out, and put him in an ambulance.

It was a sign this nightmare was over.

"They think he may have fractured his leg, but other than that, all vitals are good, he's a little bit shaken up," White said.

It was no easy effort.

About 60 people, including several Scioto County Fire Departments and the prison's search and rescue team, scoured roughly 1 square mile of woods and thick brush looking for Dale.

Ohio Highway Patrol also brought in a plane to search from the sky.

"Pretty much the whole community came together to help find him," White said.

His sister said this isn't the fire time he's gone missing, but he's always come home.

This time, she said they're especially thankful, and they just want to be together again.

"Happy that he's been found," White said.

Deputies said every search and rescue mission is different and changes with the terrain and the weather conditions.
