SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A Haverhill man was arrested and charged with raping a 15-year-old girl he first met in an Internet chat room, according to information from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office.
Gene R. Zimmerman, 37, was charged with one count of first-degree rape. He was taken to the Scioto County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
Southern Ohio Medical Center notified the Scioto County Sheriff’s Department that a 15-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted.
The girl knew her perpetrator only by the Internet screen name “Bubbles,” and said the man told her he would take her to a friend’s house in Ashland, Ky. The girl said instead she was taken to an apartment in Haverhill where she was sexually assaulted.
Zimmerman will appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Monday, June 4.
More charges could be presented to a Scioto County grand jury.
