ATHENS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The Athens County Sheriff says there is a confirmed case of someone using the drug Krokodil in the Chauncey/Plains area.

A local drug dealer told investigators she now believes the product she picked up in Columbus was not heroin but something known as Krokodil instead.

One woman who injected the drug, that basically eats through a users skin from the inside-out, developed sores that turned into a scaly, reptilian green condition.

It is now spreading up the woman's arm.

Krokodil also causes permanent brain damage resulting in slurred speech, along with organ damage, spastic movements and severe tissue damage that can lead amputations.

The Athens County Sheriff says they just want the drug off the streets and that anyone who turns it in will not face charges.
