UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Connection with Gallia County Shooting

UPDATE 11/14/13 @ 12:50 p.m.
GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- An arrest has been made in connection with a shooting that happened in Gallia County Wednesday evening.

Sheriff Joe Browning tells WSAZ.com that Michael Merry, 48, of Gallia County, was arrested and charged Thursday with felonious assault.

Merry is accused of shooting David Michael Canter, 26, Wednesday evening.

The shooting happened around 8:45 p.m. on Cherry Ridge Road in Raccoon Township.

Browning tells WSAZ.com that Canter previously worked for Merry, who is a logging operator, and the two were in a dispute over property.

Canter is in fair condition at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

At this time, there is no word when Merry will be arraigned in Gallipolis Municipal Court.

GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The Gallia County Sheriff's Office has released the name of a man who was shot Wednesday evening in Rio Grande.

Sheriff Joe Browning tells WSAZ.com that David Michael Canter, 26, was shot around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday on Cherry Ridge Road.

The shooting happened about one mile out Cherry Ridge and Canter left the scene and walked to a home to call for help.

Browning tells WSAZ.com Canter was responsive when they got on scene, and told deputies who shot him.

Browning tells WSAZ.com a suspect was questioned Wednesday night and his office is now consulting with the Gallia County Prosecutor's Office on possible charges.

Canter was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital. He is in fair condition.

GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) – A man was taken to the hospital following a shooting in Rio Grande, Ohio Wednesday night.

The shooting was reported about 8:45 p.m.

Gallia County Sheriff, Joe Browning, tells WSAZ.com the call came from a house on Cherry Ridge Road.

Browning says that where the victim went after being shot.

The Sheriff believes the shooting happened at a location about a mile down Cherry Ridge Road.

Browning says the man was responsive when they arrived at the scene, and told deputies who shot him.

The Sheriff has not released the man’s name or condition. He has also not released a motive or why man went to the house.

There is no word at this time of any arrests in the case.

Deputies shut down Cherry Ridge Road in the area between where the victim was found and where they believed the shooting happened so they could investigate the shooting.

GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- One person has been taken to the hospital after a shooting Wednesday night in Rio Grande, Ohio.

Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning tells WSAZ.com the shooting happened about 2 miles out Cherry Ridge Road.

It was reported about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Sheriff Browning says the victim is a male. His name and age are not available at this time.

Sheriff Browning tells WSAZ.com the victim was transported by Gallia EMS to a local hospital. He may be flown to another hospital.

A suspect is being questioned, but has not been arrested.

We have a crew headed to the scene.
