PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A Portsmouth man accused a stealing a car and the driver’s purse, which contained a loaded handgun, has turned himself in.
Portsmouth Police say Ryan Marcum, 21, of Warfield, Kentucky, was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle after turning himself in at the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday.
Police say the 2006 Cadillac SRX was parked in front of business in the 900 block of 11th Street when it was stolen on July 9.
Police say surveillance footage from nearby businesses gave a clear picture of the suspect.
The car was later found in Inez, Kentucky.
On Saturday, police say Marcum contacted them, saying he had seen the surveillance picture on the Facebook page of the Portsmouth Daily Times. He also told officers he had stolen the car and wanted to turn himself in.
Besides the car theft charge, Marcum is charge with a separate theft charge for the purse and the gun that were inside the vehicle.
