ATHENS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- An 18-year-old man was found barely breathing and unresponsive after a friend told deputies he took a substance called “Deathgrip,” according to the Athens County Sheriff.
Sheriff Patrick Kelly says the incident happened Monday night at a residence along State Street in Albany.
Kelly says the substance is believed to be a form of synthetic marijuana. He says the friend told deputies that he bought two grams for twenty dollars a few weeks ago at a store in Athens.
The victim’s friend said the 18-year-old took multiple hits of the product and then began to seize.
Sheriff Kelly says the substance was packaged in a black bag with the word "Deathgrip" on the front. It had an image of a skull with a hand underneath.
The substance has been sent to the lab to be identified. The matter is under investigation.
No word on the teen’s condition.
