JACKSON COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A 2-year-old Scioto County boy is dead after drowning in a pool.
Sheriff's deputies said the child drowned in Jackson County, Ohio, just one mile from the Scioto County line.
They said the case is still under investigation.
NewsChannel 3 reached out to the family Thursday, but they did not want to speak publicly.
Scioto County Sheriff's deputies said the 2-year-old boy drowned in the pool Sunday.
They said it happened at a home on Jackson Furnace Road in South Webster, Ohio.
Deputies said the family called in, hysterical, asking for help after finding the child in the pool, unresponsive.
Investigators said they were trying to use CPR to revive the boy.
They said it took just six minutes for an ambulance to reach the house.
"Hearing the family members, screaming and crying and you want to help, but you are on the other end of that line, at that point in the situation, we'd done all we could do at that point," said Scioto County Sheriff's Capt. Shawn Sparks.
Jackson County deputies said the little boy was first taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center, then flown to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus.
Sadly, he did not survive.
The Jackson County Sheriff said this is a devastating situation for the family.
Investigators we talked to said these type of deaths don't happen often in our area, but they tend to see more of them during the summer months and around holidays.
