UPDATE: Man Gets Life in Brother-in-Law's Murder

IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) – A Coal Grove man convicted of killing his brother-in-law has been sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after 25 years.

Friday, a jury in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court found Rodney Delawder, 34, guilty of murder, felonious assault and improperly discharging a firearm in the death of John A. McKnight, 48.

The shooting happened at a home 2900-block of SR 243, just outside Coal Grove in January 2013.

Delawder was sentenced Wednesday morning.

During a preliminary hearing last February, Aaron Bollinger with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department testified that the night of the shooting, a fight broke out between Delawder and his two brothers-in-law over an incident involving Delawder's wife.

According to Bollinger, during the interview Delawder told sheriff's deputies that they got what they deserved for what they had done to his wife.

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) – The murder trial for a Coal Grove man charged with killing his brother-in-law got underway Monday in Ironton.

Rodney Delawder, 34, is charged with the shooting death of John A. McKnight, 48, in January 2013.

The trial is taking place in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Besides the murder charge, Delawder is charged with felonious assault and improperly discharging a firearm.
