SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A man from Wheelersburg was killed in a single vehicle crash in Scioto county early Friday morning.

The crash happened on SR728 near the US 23 intersection in Lucasville about 1 a.m.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says Joshua M. Abrams, 35, lost control in a downhill curve, went off the road and hit a tree.

Troopers say at that point, Abrams vehicle went airborne before landing on two vehicles in a library parking lot.

Abrams was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Abrams' Facebook page, he was an instructor in the EMS Department at Shawnee State University and worked for the Portsmouth Emergency Ambulance Service.

Melissa Pace, a friend and coworker of Abrams, said he quickly grew on everyone he came in contact with.

"The second he walked through the door he fit right in," Pace said. "It's like he'd been here forever. Everybody loved him."

Pace said everyone that works at Portsmouth Emergency Ambulance Service is like one big family.

"We spend so much time together, we work 24 hour shifts, " said Pace. "We eat here, we sleep here, we spend more time with these people than our families at times. So Josh was like a brother to most of us."

Pace said it was not just those he worked with that he impacted, but everyone in the community, including his patients.

"He was that guy in our community that everybody knew and everybody loved," Pace said. "He treated every patient in every situation with the same compassion, his patients loved him just as much as the rest of us."
