For months, many said Mayor Danny Jones was a shoe-in for a second term in Charleston's top spot. Tuesday, voters made it official.
Jones received 79% of the vote. Here is the breakdown:
(R) Danny Jones - 4,304 (79%)
(D) Hershel Layne - 1,142 (21%)
Jones' opponent, Democrat Hershel Layne has been described as a ghost candidate throughout the election. We haven't seen any kind of campaigning since he announced his candidacy back in December. Just last week, Hershel told us over the phone, he was still in the race, but he's been sick.
Now that Jones has been re-elected, he says he wants to continue to make Charleston "a safer, cleaner, better place to live."
