UPDATE 5/14/12 @ 3:50 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Board of Canvassers reviewed more than 300 provisional ballots, but didn't find any significant changes in any of the races for Kanawha County.

The canvass in Kanawha County got underway early Monday morning at the courthouse. It ended at 3:11 p.m. Monday.

"The Kanawha County Clerks Office, once again, conducted an outstanding election and worked hard to make the canvass of the election run smoothly and efficiently," stated Commission President Kent Carper.

According to a news release, out of more than 300 provisional ballots, 276 were counted ballots that met the requirements of the rules. However, the number didn't significantly change the results.

Kanawha County Commissioners will certify the election at their next meeting.

ORIGINAL STORY
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The primary election results in Kanawha County are almost official.

Kanawha County is in the process of canvassing the results from last week's election. The canvass got underway early Monday morning at the Kanawha County Courthouse.

During the canvass, the clerk will go over each of the 300 provisional ballots.

31 percent of registered voters turned out for the primary. That number is up from the last primary where only 20 percent cast their ballots.

Kanawha County Commissioners will certify the election at their next meeting.

It will be a busy week for all county clerks in West Virginia as they determine the outcome of the May 8 election.
