UPDATE: Milton Incumbent Mayor Canterbury Re-Elected; Other Results

MILTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Incumbent Milton Mayor Tom Canterbury has been re-elected, according to unofficial returns Tuesday night from the city's general election.

Canterbury received 285 votes, while his challenger Jimmy R. Smith received 165 votes. That was with all precincts reporting.

Phyllis Kirtley Smith was running unopposed in the city recorder race.

Also Tuesday night, five City Council members were elected. They are: Carl D. Harshbarger (291 votes), Cecil D. Taylor (263 votes), Charles Conard (263 votes), Pat Wisman (229 votes) and Robert "Bob" Legg (224 votes).

In a proposition to change the Milton City Charter to extend terms of office, 239 voted for the charter change while 195 voted against it.

MILTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- It is Election Day for residents in Milton.

Voters are going to the polls to elect a Mayor, Recorder and City Council members. They are also deciding whether to change the City Charter to allow city office holders to serve four year terms, instead of two year terms.

The Mayor’s race pits incumbent Tom Canterbury against Jimmy Smith. Canterbury was first elected Mayor in 2011.

Phyllis Kirtley Smith is running unopposed in the Recorder’s race, and seven people are running for five council seats.

Voting is taking place at City Hall. Polls will be open until 7:30 p.m.
