Wolfe, Williams Win Mayor Nominations

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- As expected, it'll be Wolfe vs. Williams this fall.

Incumbent Huntington Mayor Kim Wolfe won the Republican nomination with 58 percent of the vote.

Wolfe had 1,100 votes to 782 over Tea Party candidate Dale Anderson II.

On the Democratic side, city councilman Steve Williams won it in a landslide 3,032 votes to 952 over small business owner Stephen Anderson, Jr.

Williams finished with 76 percent of his party's votes.

At the Cabell County Courthouse after results came in Tuesday night, Wolfe and Williams both talked about why they believe they're the better candidate heading into the general election.

Wolfe says experience is the main difference.

"I have been mayor,” Wolfe said. “I've been an executive. It takes a term to set the team in place. I think we've all worked together, not only with the private sector but with business, and I think things are moving in the right direction."

"I'm certainly more qualified,” Williams said. “Although he's been mayor for the last four years, and I've enjoyed working with him, we have such an array of complicated issues in economic development, finance, legislative, we need somebody who can do all those things."

Wolfe says he'll continue to attack criminal activity and work toward collecting taxes more effectively.

Williams says as mayor, he'd work with state lawmakers to help remove barriers to growing new businesses in Huntington.
