UPDATE: Three Logan Co. Residents Arrested in Drug Raid Involving Columbus Gang

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Three people from Logan County, West Virginia are among the 21 people indicted following a year long investigation into drug trafficking and gun crimes gun crimes in a central Ohio investigation.

Federal, state and local law enforcement officers arrested those indicted Wednesday morning.

The 78 count indictment charges all the defendants with conspiring to distribute cocaine, oxycodone, crack cocaine, and marijuana, a crime punishable by at least 10 years and up to life in prison.

Other charges include possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking, possession of firearms by convicted felons, interstate travel to support racketeering enterprises, and money laundering.

Another individual is charged in a separate eight-count indictment

The three people from Logan County are Gary R. Martin II, 39, Lisa B. Martin, 39, and Derrick A. Browning, 30, all from Sarah Ann in Logan County, W.Va. The three were taken into custody about 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The other 19 people indicted are from the Columbus, Ohio area.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, millions of dollars were involved in the drug operation, which used Columbus as its hub.

Authorities called Wednesday's arrests phase one of an operation dubbed “Get Shorty.”

Each of those arrested is scheduled to appear before a U.S. Magistrate this week

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say 22 people have been charged with drug trafficking and gun crimes in a central Ohio investigation.

State and federal investigators say the defendants are alleged members of a gang that has operated in a neighborhood north of downtown Columbus for two decades

David DeVillers, assistant U.S. attorney in Columbus, says some alleged members of the "Short North Posse" are relatives of original gang members from the 1990s, including sons and daughters.

The defendants are charged with conspiring to distribute cocaine, oxycodone, crack cocaine and marijuana. The federal indictments announced Wednesday also charge defendants with illegal possession of firearms, illegal travel to support racketeering and money laundering.

Several of the defendants were in custody Wednesday.

Columbus, Franklin County and federal authorities say the indictments cap a yearlong investigation.
