BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A 22-year-old was sentenced Thursday to life in prison after admitting to killing an elderly man.

Maura Perry of Hamlin was sentenced to life during a hearing in Boone County Circuit Court. She will be eligible for parole after serving 15 years.

Last month Perry pleaded guilty to killing Jimmie Cooper, 71, of Peytona, in September 2012.

Investigators say the murder was fueled by her drug habit and that Perry stole items from his home and pawned them to get money for drugs.

Deputies say Cooper died from a gunshot wound to the head.
