UPDATE: Mother and Son Killed in Route 10 Crash; Names Released

UPDATE 6/27/14 @ 1:30 p.m.
LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A mother and her son were killed in a head-on crash in Logan County.

The accident was reported at 7:43 a.m. Friday at the 3 Mile Curve in McConnell.

Logan County Sheriff's Deputies say Rita Overbee, 53, was driving north on Route 10 with her son, Robert Overbee, 28, when she lost control and crossed the center line and hit another vehicle head on.

According to witnesses at the scene, Overbee was driving at a high rate of speed and didn't slow down when she entered the curve in the road.

Deputies say Rita and Robert were trapped in the vehicle and firefighters had to cut them out of the vehicle. Both of them were taken to Logan Regional Hospital where they were pronounced dead. Both Rita and Robert were from Welch.

According to a news release, Rita and Robert were not wearing their seatbelts.

The driver of the vehicle Rita hit was also taken to the hospital, but his injuries were not considered life threatening.

Route 10 was closed for about two hours while crews were on the scene.

LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two people have died following a head on crash in Logan County.

The accident was reported at 7:43 a.m. Friday at the 3 Mile Curve in McConnell.

Sheriff's Deputies tell WSAZ.com the driver of a vehicle headed north on Route 10 lost control, crossed the center line, and hit a utility truck that was in the southbound lane, head-on.

Deputies say two people from the vehicle and the driver from the truck were taken to the hospital. Deputies say the driver and passenger in the vehicle were pronounced dead when they arrived at the hospital. The driver of the truck is expected to be okay.

Deputies say, witnesses at the scene told them it appeared the driver wasn't familiar with the road. Witnesses say the driver of the vehicle was traveling at a good rate of speed, didn't make the turn, and went into the southbound lane.

The names of the victims have not been released. Deputies say the two victims were from Welch.

Route 10 was closed for about two hours while crews were on the scene.

LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Emergency crews are on the scene of an accident that has closed Route 10 in Logan County.

The accident was reported at 7:43 a.m. at the 3 Mile Curve in McConnell.

911 dispatchers tell WSAZ.com two cars were involved in the accident and there were injuries. No word on how many people were hurt or the extent of their injuries.

Route 10 remains closed in the areas due to the investigation.

No other information is being released.
