Sexual Abuse Trial Postponed for Former High School JROTC Instructor

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A former JROTC instructor will have to wait to go to trial in connection with a sexual abuse case.

Martin Kirby's trial was supposed to start Monday in Kanawha County.

His attorney asked for more time to collect evidence, and a judge granted the request.

Kirby's trial is now scheduled for February.

Kirby was an Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps instructor at George Washington High School.

He was arrested in January, accused of having a sexual relationship with a female student in 2010.

CHARLESTON, W.Va (WSAZ) -- A JROTC instructor has been arrested on charges of sexually abusing a female student.

Kanawha County Sheriff Deputies tell WSAZ.com Martin Dale Kirby is charged with sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian.

Kirby is an Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps instructor at George Washington High School.

Deputies say he had a sexual relationship with a female student at the school in September 2010. They say the abuse happened on more than one occasion.

Kirby was arrested and booked into the South Central Regional Jail but has since been released.
