UPDATE: Huntington Murder Suspect Indicted

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A murder suspect, who was on the run for several months before being arrested, has been indicted in the case.

David Pitts, of Huntington, was indicted this week by a Cabell County Grand Jury.

Pitts is charged with murder, wanton endangerment, fleeing, and obstructing an officer.

Police say Pitts shot and killed Deangelo Erquhart, 23, last summer at Gary's Play in the 2000 block of 10th Avenue.

Pitts was on the run for several months before being arrested in November.

There's no word when he will be arraigned.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man wanted in connection with a murder in Huntington in July is now behind bars on that charge, along with additional charges in connection with a shooting incident Wednesday night.

David Pitts, 25, of Huntington, was arrested early Thursday morning.

A Huntington Police officer says about 10:30 p.m., he reported hearing 5-6 gun shots coming from an area in the 900-block of 21st Street.

The officer says he then saw a man running down the street, throw down a gun and a latex glove. After a short chase, the man was taken into custody.

The officer says the man originally said his name was "Joe Harless."

A State Trooper was called to the scene and used portable fingerprint scanner to determine the suspect was actually David Pitts, wanted for murder in Huntington.

Police say they later found an SUV in the area with five bullet holes in it.

Pitts is charged with wanton endangerment, obstructing and fleeing in connection with Wednesday's incident.

As for the murder charge, Huntington Police say on July 5, around 1 a.m., Pitts and DeAngelo D. Erquhart were at Gary's Lounge in Huntington.

According to the criminal complaint, Pitts starteed a fight with Erquhart, pulled out a gun and shot him several times.

Erquhart died at the hospital.

Pitts is charged with murder in the shooting of DeAngelo Erquhart.

He was arraigned on all of the charges Thursday morning in Cabell County.

Pitts is being held in the Western Regional Jail on no bond.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Police say they have arrested the suspect in a murder that happened in Huntington back in July.

David Pitts, 25, of Huntington, was arrested early Thursday morning.

Police wanted Pitts for the murder of Deangelo Erquhart, 23, outside Gary's Place in early July.

Police say Erquhart was shot multiple times.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Police have identified the man they believe was involved in a murder in Huntington late last week.

Huntington Police say a murder warrant has been issued for David Pitts, 25, of Huntington.

Police believe he was involved in a shooting that happened around 1 a.m. Friday at Gary's Place, in the 2000 block of 10th Avenue.

Deangelo Erquhart, 23, was killed the shooting. Police say he was shot multiple times.

The Alcohol Beverage Control Administration was on scene after the murder. They suspend the bar's liquor license for 10 days.

UPDATE 7/5/13 @ 6:45 a.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Police are asking for help from the public in identifying and locating the person who shot and killed a man inside of a bar in Huntington.

Dispatchers received a call about 1 a.m. Friday of shots fired in the 2000 block of 10th Avenue. According to police, officers arriving on the scene stopped a man who they say had a weapon they believed to be related to the original call.

While officers arrested that suspect, they heard sounds from inside of Gary's Place, a bar located at 2005 10th Ave. Additional responding officers arrived to find Deangelo Erquhart, 23, of Huntington, on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died a short time later.

At least 50 people are believed to have been coming out of the bar after the shots were fired.

Police say evidence shows there was an altercation that led to the shooting. They say this appears to be an isolated incident.

No suspects have been named.

The Alcohol Beverage Control Administration has been on scene at Gary's Place. They have decided to suspend the bar's liquor license for 10 days.

Anyone with information related to the shooting is asked to call Huntington Police at 304-696-4444.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The name of the man who was shot and killed at a bar in Huntington early Friday morning has been released.

According to police, Deangelo Erquhart, 23, was shot multiple times inside of Gary's Place on 10th Street about 1 a.m. Friday. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.

Investigators are on the scene looking for evidence related to the shooting. Police say at this point they don't have any suspects.

The shooting was reported to Cabell County 911 at about 1 a.m. Friday.
