POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man arrested on New Year's Day this year in connection with a shooting along Evergreen Drive in Point Pleasant has been indicted by a Mason County grand jury.
According to indictments unsealed Tuesday, Franklin Scott Eaves, 23, of Point Pleasant, has been charged with four counts of malicious assault, wanton endangerment and shooting near a dwelling.
Eaves is accused of shooting two men at an apartment complex. Police said drugs were not a motive in the shooting.
Point Pleasant Police Chief Ernie Waterson tells WSAZ.com that Franklin Eaves, 22, was taken to the Western Regional Jail Wednesday. He is charged with two counts of malicious wounding, which are felony charges.
Eaves is accused of shooting Earl Bonecutter and Michael Stewart at an apartment complex along Evergreen Drive on New Year's Day.
Waterson tells WSAZ.com that the men were at Bonecutter's apartment drinking together. He says the men got into an argument about something, Eaves went to his apartment and got his shotgun and came back and shot the men through a glass door at Bonecutter's apartment.
Bonecutter and Stewart were both shot and taken to Pleasant Valley Hospital. Stewart was treated and released. Bonecutter was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center on Wednesday. No word on his condition.
Eaves ran off after the shooting. He was found two hours later hiding on the railroad tracks near the apartment complex. Waterson says he was extremely intoxicated and may have had some issues with hypothermia, so he was taken to Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Drugs are not believed to be involved in the incident.
Eaves is being held on a $100,000 bond.
