UPDATE 10/3/12 @ 6:35 a.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The demolition process continues in Huntington.

The blitz is going well, but another abandoned house fire Wednesday morning showed there's still a real fear blazing in many neighborhoods.
And that fear hasn't really subsided with the revitalization project underway.

The reason -- there are still hundreds of abandoned homes scattered throughout Huntington. Several months ago, a detective told us someone's going to die sooner or later.

Some thankful neighbors say that sooner time could have come, but it luckily did not Wednesday morning

Firefighters fought the fully ablaze three-story home when they made it to 2nd Street just after 6:30 a.m.

But neighbor Jim Wells was only concerned about elderly and hard-of-hearing neighbor Louise Nichols. He wasn't sure if it was her house on fire.

“I didn't know if it was her house or not," Wells said. "Some indigents have been using it as a crash pad."

Nichols said, ”A firefighter and my neighbor pounded on my door.
It was close to my home; it was scary.”

Wells got Nichols to safety, and firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze without any injuries.

It was all at a home neighbors say has been abandoned for at least two years -- a house that they say was a constant nest of nastiness.

“We have tried to get something done," Nichols said. "They said we were on the list."

But WSAZ.com checked with the city's unsafe building list. The home that burned along 2nd Street had never been on it, never been called in by a neighbor or passerby.

Now that the home has burned, code inspections and owner notices will begin the lengthy detailed legal process of getting it on the city's unsafe building list.

Neighbors said they heard suspicious noises coming from the home before the fire started.

It’s yet another possible arson under investigation in the city of Huntington.
