UPDATE: Woman Dies after Being Struck by Modified Hearse; Name Released

UPDATE 9/14/12 @ 9:00 a.m.
KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The woman hit by a modified hearse late Wednesday night has died.

Deputies say Amanda Bess was standing in MacCorkle Avenue near the Rustic Motel in Jefferson about 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities said the hearse was headed east when the driver looked in his mirror to change lanes, looked up and hit Bess.

Bess died on the way to the hospital.

A witness at the scene told investigators he had seen Bess near the area of the crash and she appeared to be impaired, according to deputies.

The driver of the hearse was not cited.

The Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A woman was hit by a modified hearse late Wednesday night.

The accident happened just before 9 p.m. Wednesday in front of the Rustic Motel along Route 60 in the Jefferson area.

Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies tell WSAZ.com the hearse was headed east when the driver looked in his mirror to change lanes, looked up and hit the woman.

The eastbound lanes were closed in the area for several hours before re-opening just before 1 a.m. Thursday.

The extent of the woman's injuries is unknown.

Deputies say the hearse has been modified into a show car.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A woman was struck by a modified hearse Wednesday night on U.S. 60, and the eastbound lanes are closed in that area, according to information from Metro 911.

It happened just before 9 p.m. Wednesday in front of the Rustic Motel in the Jefferson area.

The hearse was headed east, Kanawha County deputies say. The driver looked in his mirror to change lanes, looked up and hit the woman.

The extent of the woman's injuries is unknown.

Deputies say the hearse has been modified into a show car.
