UPDATE 1/18/13 @ 7:30 a.m.
MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The West Turnpike Turnpike is open to traffic, but there are still some tie-ups if you're heading south into Virginia.

I-77 South remains shutdown in Virginia, near the West Virginia-Virginia tunnel, after an accident involving some tractor trailers.

Dispatchers tell WSAZ.com all southbound traffic is being forced to exit the interstate at the Princeton exit, which is exit 9.

According to a news release, a wrecker service and plow trucks are working together to remove the tractor trailers that are not able to get up the mountain.

DOH crews will be monitoring traffic during the morning commute. If any back ups should occur, they may start diverting traffic at the Camp Creek Exit, exit 20, according to a news release.

Drivers are encouraged to delay their travels until I-77 reopens in Virginia.

Right now, traffic is backed up six miles.

The turnpike expects the interstate to reopen later today.
