UPDATE: Driver Sentenced in Deadly DUI Crash

UPDATE 8/1/13 @ 11:15 a.m.
PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A deadly DUI crash will send a man from Putnam County to jail.

Caleb Beckner was sentenced to 18 months behind bars Thursday morning.

He was driving drunk on Poca River Road in 2012 when he crashed his car.

His passenger Heather Brooks was killed in the crash.

Beckner was on parole at the time of the incident for grand larceny.

His parole was revoked so he will also serve two to 15 years in prison for that charge.



UPDATE 3/7/13 @ 2:15 p.m.
PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man from Putnam County is expected back in court after he was indicted on charges involving a fatal DUI accident.

The accident happened last March along Poca River Road.

On Thursday, a grand jury indicted Caleb A. Beckner, 25, of Red House, on driving under the influence of alcohol causing death and aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol.

Putnam County Sheriff's Deputies say Beckner was driving drunk when he lost control of his car and flipped the vehicle. The vehicle landed on its top in a ditch.

Heather Brooks was a passenger in the car; She died at the scene.
Another passenger was not hurt.

Beckner is scheduled to be back in court Thursday, March 14.

UPDATE 3/9/12 @ 10 a.m.
PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man is behind bars charged in a fatal accident in Putnam County.

The accident happened about 12:45 a.m. along Poca River Road.

Putnam County Sheriff's Deputies tell WSAZ.com Caleb Beckner was driving drunk when he lost control of his car and it landed on its top in a ditch.

Heather Ashley Brooks, 22, of Putnam County, was a passenger in the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Derek Herdman was also a passenger in the car, but he was not hurt.

Beckner was charged with second offense aggravated DUI and DUI causing death. He was arraigned on the charges early Friday morning.



UPDATE 3/9/12 @ 6:15 a.m.
PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A 911 Dispatcher in Putnam County said Poca River Road reopened about 6 a.m. Friday.

It had been closed due to a single-vehicle crash which left one person dead.

The dispatcher told WSAZ.com that two other people were in the vehicle but were not injured.

Names aren't yet being released.

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Wa. (WSAZ) -- 911 Dispatchers in Putnam County say a one-vehicle crash on Poca River Road has left one person dead.

Putnam County 911 told WSAZ.com the crash happened at 2:30 a.m. Friday about one mile past Doc Bailey Road.

Two other people were in the car but were not injured.

The name of the person who died hasn't been released.

The 911 Dispatcher said Poca River Road will be shutdown until 6:00 or 6:15 a.m. Friday.
