UPDATE 11/8/13 @ 6:30 p.m.
LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Family members of a 10-month-old baby girl found dead inside a Holden home are speaking out.

Joshua Mounts says although he only knew his niece, January Hugle, for 10 months, she gave him memories to last a lifetime.

"She was just the chubbiest little thing ... she was healthy, she was happy," he said. "Just a kind soul."

But now, he lives with grief knowing he won't get to see her face again.

"I'm never going to get to see her go to her first day of school or a dance or cheerleading practice," he said. "These are things we're going to lose."

State Police found the baby dead inside her home along Freemont Loop Thursday morning. Now, they're investigating.

Mounts says the tough questions are too much for his mourning family to bear.

"I don't even want to think about the feeling that my sister had to experience in holding her 10-month child dead," he said. "My sister is a strong woman and a great mother."

Mounts says the hardest part is explaining what happened to his other niece, 3-year-old Miley.

"She's too young to understand what is going on, but there are going to be days when she asks where her sister is," he said. "Someday, when she's old enough, we can sit down and explain to her."

The child's body was sent Friday to the medical examiners for an autopsy.

State Police say they're waiting for toxicology reports to come back.

LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- West Virginia State Police are investigating the death of a 10-month-old baby in Logan County.

Troopers tell WSAZ.com the baby was found at a house on Freemont Loop in Holden about 10 a.m. Thursday.

Troopers are currently conducting interviews in the case. They are not saying if the death is suspicious. "It's too soon to say or to make any kind of determination as to what happened. It's very possible this could have been an accidental death or it could have been natural causes or it could have been something more than that," says West Virginia State Police Sgt. Michael Baylous.

The baby's body has been sent to the West Virginia State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy and to find a cause of death.

"These types of cases are the most difficult to respond to. They're heartbreaking for everyone involved when a child is a victim," Sgt. Baylous adds.

State Police hope to release more details Friday, including the baby's name.
