LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The family of a missing man is now saying human remains found one week ago belong to their family member.

Logan County Deputies discovered an ATV and human remains near Henlawson Road.

James Marcum’s house sits less than a mile away from the discovery.

“It was his four-wheeler, his clothing, his shoes, he had a ring on, and this necklace,” Marcum’s sister Darlie Gearhart told WSAZ.com Sunday.

Gearhart says everything found near the remains belonged to Marcum.

Marcum was last seen on his ATV.

In the weeks following Marcum’s disappearance; police, family and volunteers searched the area. Gearhart says she even searched the same area where the remains were found.

“I can remember being here in the month of June and it (the brush) was so full and so thick that you just couldn't see anything in there,” Gearhart said.

The family is now planning to turn to the area into a memorial for Marcum.

Gearhart tells WSAZ.com, the discovered remains have been sent to Washington D.C. for further testing.

UPDATE: 11/3/13 @ 7:45 p.m.
LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A tip from neighbors led deputies to human remains Sunday afternoon.

Logan County deputies say they discovered a wrecked ATV and human remains on Henlawson Road.

While the description of the ATV found Sunday matches that of missing man James Marcum, deputies say it’s too soon to positively identify the remains.

Marcum disappeared on June 4th. The search lasted more than a month. Deputies, troopers and volunteers combed the area and took to the skies to find 44-year-old Marcum, but back then, the wooded terrain wasn't on their side.

“It's a very thick brush and vegetation,” Cpl. M.C. Sutherland of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday. “We combed everywhere … the vegetation and everything we just couldn't locate him.”

Neighbor Rufus Collins also saw the wrecked ATV several days ago but said he didn’t realize remains were nearby.

“I saw the four wheeler sticking up down there, saw the wheels sticking up,” Collins said.

Officials from the Medical Examiner’s Officer assisted deputies Sunday. The remains have been taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification.

LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A body has been found in Henlawson in Logan County.

Early Sunday afternoon, the Logan County Sheriff's Department says they received a call that an ATV had been found in a wooded area near Henlawson.

After further investigation at the scene, deputies say they found the ATV and human skeletal remains.

The Sheriff's Department cannot confirm at this time if the remains are male or female. They say they believe the incident may be linked to the missing person incident of James David Marcum, who disappeared June 4, 2013. Marcum left his house on a red ATV and rode into the hills towards Mill Creek.
