BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- One man is hospitalized and in serious condition after a shooting in Boone County.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office says the shooting happened near Whitesville along Seng Creek Road approximately 6 a.m. Sunday morning.
Nathan Amick had been arguing with his wife at their house early Sunday morning when police arrived. Amick then left the house and was asked by his mother-in-law and the homeowner, Debbie Thompson, not to return.
Around 6 a.m. Thompson called police saying Amick was trying to break into her house. Before police could arrive at the scene, Amick forced entry and police say he was trying to harm the people inside. Thompson then fired a single gunshot from a .25 caliber handgun that hit Amick in the lower abdomen.
Amick was airlifted to CAMC and underwent surgery.
One neighbor WSAZ spoke with says he was very surprised by the incident.
"They are nice people. We've never had an issue," said David Morgan, a neighbor, "nothing like this has happened in this neighborhood that I'm aware of."
At this point, Thompson is not facing any criminal charges, but Amick will face charges when he is released from the hospital. Possible charges are burglary which is a felony.
