Burglary Arrests Bring Relief to Ceredo Residents

CEREDO, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Arrests in burglaries in the Ceredo area have brought some relief to residents.

Ever since Della Faulkner’s home along Main Street was burglarized a little more than a week ago, she has searched the region for stolen items – belongings with deep sentimental family value.

“My mother died last September, and I had a bag with her cherished rings,” Faulkner said. “I've been to pawn shops all over with a picture of my mother with her rings on because they mean so much to me.”

Ceredo Police Chief Anthony Poston said a pillowcase full of items was seized at the home of suspects Matt Stender and Clark Scaggs. The two were arrested on felony burglary charges Wednesday night by West Virginia State Police for a break-in just outside Ceredo town limits.

But Poston says Skaggs confessed that for months, the duo has been ransacking homes throughout Ceredo and maybe beyond.

“They are on heroin and meth and, instead of getting jobs like regular people, they steal to support their habit,” Poston said.

He said some of the stolen items were taken to Ohio and sold at the Chesapeake Flea Market.

“Mostly tools, both hand tools and power tools,” Poston said.

He said he will work to get the stolen jewelry back to the rightful owners.

Police say as their investigation continues, Stender and Scaggs may be connected to other area break-ins.

Both men are in custody at the Western Regional Jail.
