CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Thousands of cans have already been collected during a can food drive in Charleston.
Dixon Hughes Goodwin is hosting "Count the Cans: Community Day" Wednesday at Chase Tower on the corner of Summers and Virginia streets.
The cans will benefit the Mountaineer Food Bank, which serves 48 counties in West Virginia.
Hughes owns Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP. The accounting firm's employees donated 3,000 cans to the drive. Employees say they want to help alleviate hunger in West Virginia.
The can food drive will go until 7 p.m. Wednesday. If you would like to donate, the cans can be dropped off at the Chase Tower.
Any non-perishable food items are being accepted.
According to a news release, most needed items are canned meats, peanut butter, boxed meals, cereal, crackers, gelatin, granola,bars, pudding, fruit, cups, canned vegetables, canned fruits, fruit juice, pasta, rice, canned soups, dry or canned beans, powdered milk and household cleaning items.
