UPDATE: I-64 WB Ramp at Nitro Reopen following Accident

NITRO, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The westbound Interstate 64 ramp in Nitro is reopen Friday night after being closed off and on for more than a day after a tractor-trailer overturned, leaking a large amount of diesel fuel.

The ramp reopened just before 7:30 p.m. Friday, according to Metro 911.

The accident happened about 2:30 a.m. Thursday. The overturned tractor-trailer leaked several hundred gallons of mineral oil, in addition to diesel fuel.



UPDATE 6/27/14 @ 10:30 a.m.
NITRO, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A crash that happened more than 24 hours ago is still causing problems for some drivers.

West Virginia State Police tell WSAZ.com crews had to close the Interstate 64 westbound ramp in Nitro again about 9 a.m. Friday. Several hundred gallons of mineral oil spilled when a tractor-trailer overturned, leaking a large amount of diesel fuel about 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

The truck was pulling a flatbed trailer with three transformers when it rolled over from the exit ramp onto the entrance ramp. Troopers say several hundred gallons of mineral oil spilled and crews are still working to clean it up.

The ramp is expected to be closed most of Friday.

The driver and passenger in the semi were taken to the hospital.



UPDATE 6/26/14 @ 6:45 a.m.
NITRO, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The westbound on and off ramps of I-64 at Nitro reopened at 6:40 a.m. Thursday.

Route 25 opened just after 6 a.m.

The traffic problems were the result of a tractor trailer that overturned about 2:21 a.m.

The driver and a passenger were taken to the hospital.

Names and conditions haven't been released.

UPDATE 6/26/14 @ 6:00 a.m..
NITRO, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Traffic issues continue following a tractor-trailer crash in Nitro. However, WSAZ.com's crew on the scene says Route 25 has reopened.

At this time, the I-64 westbound entrance and exit ramps remain closed while crews work to clear the debris from the accident.



UPDATE 6/26/14 @ 5:00 a.m..

NITRO, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two people have been taken to the hospital after a tractor- trailer crash in Nitro.

It happened 2:21 a.m. Thursday at the westbound exit ramp of I-64. The semi went off the road and turned over.

The passenger was thrown out but was walking around after the crash.

Both the driver and passenger were taken to the hospital.

The flatbed trailer had three transformers on it. D.E.P. is actually checking to see whether those are leaking.

D.E.P. told WSAZ.com the semi is owned by D.H.D.S.I. Enterprises out of Surrey, British Columbia, and this was the driver's first trip.

Traffic isn't affected on I-64 but the westbound exit ramps are closed, as well as Route 25.

The exit ramp is expected to reopen within the hour. It could be several more hours before the entrance ramp reopens.

Crews are cleaning up diesel leaked from the truck. HAZMAT is also helping in the cleanup.

NITRO, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A tractor- trailer crash near the westbound lanes of I-64 has sent one person to the hospital.

The crash happened about 2:21 a.m. Thursday in Nitro.

A metro dispatcher told WSAZ.com that the tractor-trailer overturned and is leaking a large amount of diesel.

Route 25 is closed, as well as the westbound on and off ramps of I-64 at mile marker 45.

They could be closed several hours because of the diesel cleanup.

Drivers should expect delays.

Metro says Putnam County EMS transported one person. The person's name and condition aren't being released.
