NEW INFO: Son Sentenced in Father's Murder

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A young man who pleaded guilty to the shooting death of his father has been sentenced to a prison for young adults.

Thomas Jarrell, 18, of Point Pleasant, was sentenced to not less than six months, but not more than two years in the Anthony Correctional Center during a hearing on Friday in Mason County Circuit Court.

At the time of the murder, Thomas was 17 years old. Investigators say he shot and killed his father, Ron Jarrell, 45, at their home on Ripley Road, just outside Point Pleasant in April 2012.

He was later arrested in Huntington where he and his family used to live.

His case was later moved from juvenile court to adult court. On November 9, Jarrell pleaded guilty to an information of second degree murder.

The Anthony Correctional Center is for young adults between the ages of 18 and 25.

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A young man has pleaded guilty to a murder charge in the shooting death of his father.

The Mason County Circuit Clerk's Office tells WSAZ.com that Thomas Jarrell was moved to adult status on November 9.

At the time of the crime, Thomas was 17 years old. He has since turned 18.

Investigators say he shot and killed his father, Ron Jarrell,45, at their home in the 9100 block of Ripley Road, just outside Point Pleasant in April.

He was later arrested in Huntington where he and his family lived several years back.

The Clerk's Office tells WSAZ.com that on November 9, Thomas Jarrell pleaded guilty to an information of second degree murder. He has been in the Western Regional Jail since that date.

On Thursday, Thomas was back in Mason County Circuit Court where a judge ordered him to spend 60 days in the Anthony Center in White Sulfur Springs.

After that 60 day evaluation period is over, he will face a judge again.

When Jarrell was originally taken into custody, he was also charged with grand larceny, for stealing his father's truck and wallet. According to the jail website, this is still a charge in the juvenile court system.

MASON COUNTY, W. Va. (WSAZ) -- A male juvenile is facing a murder charge in connection with a Mason County shooting.

Mason County Prosecutor Damon Morgan, tells WSAZ.com that the juvenile is being charged with murder, grand larceny and petit larceny.

The charges are in connection with a deadly shooting in Mason County.

Ron Jarrell, 45, was found dead inside his home in the 9100-block of Ripley Road. That is just outside Point Pleasant city limits.

The juvenile was arrested in Huntington after he fled from Mason County.

The juvenile is 17-years-old. He is being held in a secure juvenile facility in Dunbar until his hearing in Mason County Circuit Court on May 21.

At this time, Morgan has not decided if the juvenile will be charged as an adult.

No bond has been set for the juvenile.

MASON COUNTY, W. Va. (WSAZ) -- A male juvenile is being charged with murder in the connection with the death of Ron Jarrell.

Ron Jarrell, 45, was found dead inside his home in the 9100-block of Ripley Road. That is just outside Point Pleasant city limits.

According to a press release from the Mason County Sheriff's Department, the male juvenile is charged with murder, grand larceny and petit larceny. He is being held in a secure juvenile detention facility until his first appearance in Mason County Circuit Court.

Sgt. Michael Baylous said evidence at the scene and witness statements led police to the juvenile suspect being taken into custody. The Huntington Police Department made the arrest after the juvenile fled from Mason County.

MASON COUNTY, W. Va. (WSAZ) -- West Virginia State Police say a juvenile family member is in custody after the murder of Ron Jarrell.

Jarrell was found in his home on the 9100-block of Ripley Road, just outside the Point Pleasant city limits about 11 Sunday morning. First Sgt. Michael Baylous of the West Virginia State Police said the juvenile family member was taken into custody by Huntington Police.

The juvenile has not yet been charged.

Baylous said evidence at the scene and witness statements led police to the juvenile suspect being taken into custody.

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Members of the Mason County Sheriff's Department say they're dealing with a death investigation.

It happened in the 9100-block of Ripley Road, just outside of the Point Pleasant city limits. Sheriff's deputies, along with West Virginia State Police, are on scene.

Crews with WSAZ.com say investigators have been using metal detectors on several areas of the property. As of now, deputies are not releasing many details about the situation, or the victim.
