CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The old Glenwood Elementary School is one step closer to being affordable housing for senior citizens.
Charleston City Council approved financing to go toward the rehabilitation process. A developer is turning the old school into housing for seniors.
The building will be transformed into 31 apartments.
Last year, the Board of Education auctioned the building as part of the West Side Elementary consolidation project.
AU Associates has contacted the Kanawha County Board of Education. They're interested in buying the property to build senior housing.
The group specializes in turning historic buildings into affordable housing.
The company wants to turn the old school property into 28 apartments.
The school will be vacant when Glenwood students move to the new West Side Elementary.
