Man Dies in Downtown Williamson Fire; Name Released

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The W.Va. State Fire Marshal's Office has released the name of the man killed in an early morning fire.

Robert Mitchell Smith, 48, did not survive when the building caught fire early Saturday morning.

It happened about 5:00 a.m. on 3rd Avenue and Pike Street.

The building housed five businesses and apartments.

Another man had to be taken to the hospital after suffering severe 2nd and 3rd degree burns.

There's no word yet what caused the fire.

The fire started just after 5 a.m. on Pike Street and 3rd Avenue.

Williamson Fire Chief Mounts says one person died and a man is injured with 2nd and 3rd degree burns.

Mounts says the fire destroyed one building that houses five different buildings.

No word yet on how the fire started.
