UPDATE 9/30/13 @ 6:15 p.m.
DANVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- When it comes to fighting fire, the most important thing is of course water. When that's tough to get, there's not much firefighters can do.

This is a challenge fire departments in rural areas deal with frequently, and that was the case for a mobile home fire during the weekend in Boone County.

A couple’s mobile home along Price Branch Road was destroyed by fire, Saturday afternoon.

They weren’t home at the time, so neighbors called 911 when they saw flames shooting from the home.

The Danville Fire Department responded, and immediately knew they needed to call in backup.

Overall, it took four different departments to put the fire out, and it's all because of the water situation.

The mobile home is up on a hill. To get to the closest hydrant, you have to go down the hill and around several curves.

It's a time-consuming challenge in a case where seconds count.

“If you don't have the water, there's nothing you can do with the fire,” Assistant Fire Chief Justin Chafin said. “Not having hydrants in an area or having ability to get to it is very difficult to mess with."

Firefighters say when it comes to hydrants outside city limits, another issue is the water pressure. That's because they say the pipes aren't as wide and not as much can flow through at one time.

Firefighters say these problems are just the nature of the beast, and that they work well with the water company to get as many hydrants installed as possible.
