CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A former Ripley police officer has been sentenced one year and one day in prison after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography.
U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin announced that 31-year-old George Michael Puskas II was sentenced Monday in federal court in Charleston. His prison time will be followed by 10 years of supervised release.
Puskas had entered a guilty plea in July.
According to prosecutors, Puskas established a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old in March 2010 and took sexually explicit pictures and video of the minor.
Puskas resigned from the Ripley Police Department in May 2012, about a month after authorities executed a federal search warrant and seized a computer, a flash drive and other items he used to produce child pornography.
