Last Minute Thanksgiving Preps

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Grocery stores Wednesday evening were filled with people thankful for the few last minutes, because they say that's the only time they can get things done.

"I always say I'm going to get it done earlier, but it never happens," Sarah Boley said.

Boley was working to check the last items off her list at the Tower Food Fair in Barboursville. Her family comes in each Thanksgiving from Florida.

“It’s a very special thing, especially if you can only get family together once or twice a year,” she said.

Turkey and stuffing are staples at most Thanksgiving dinners; rotisserie chicken, not so much.

"It takes at least 20 minutes to find the best chicken,” Falan Boley said. “I try to find the best chicken I can.”

Falan’s 11-year-old son has eaten chicken on Thanksgiving since he was a toddler because it was more tender and easier for him to chew than turkey.

"He gets excited,” she said. “It makes him happy. Last year he was sitting there, and all my family is sitting around, and he's like, ‘Look, I've still got my chicken.’ He thinks it's funny."

Kathy Cremeans was another shopper getting last minute items Wednesday night.

“I've been working a lot of hours this week, and I haven't had time to do it," Cremeans said.

Cremeans is also preparing for a less traditional dinner. Her family is having beef brisket her son mailed in from Oklahoma.
