Deputies say Danny Kennedy, 54, was shot once and left lying outside his home. It happened overnight Saturday in Sprague in Raleigh County.
Investigators say three suspects were leaving a home in the neighborhood and tried to turn around in Kennedy's driveway when their car got stuck in the grass. Dominic Paige, Antonio Wade and a teenager were in the car.
Police say Kennedy came outside, upset and they began arguing, which soon escalated to violence. Kennedy ended up getting shot and later died at the hospital.
"I just remember like screaming in my head and wanting to get like on the ground as fast as possible," neighbor Nora Davis said. "It hurts really bad to know that someone got shot over something so small and could have been prevented."
Deputies say one of the three pulled the trigger and they all left Kennedy, ditched the car and took off. Paige was later tracked down and arrested. He is charged with murder, however, Wade and the teenager are still on the run.
Meanwhile, a neighborhood is left grieving and trying to understand why it happened.
"He was just an awesome guy, just really good to everybody," neighbor Rita Gearhart said. "I've never seen you know never any trouble out of anybody."
Gearhart added, "It's going to be really hard...to know he's not there."
