Man Accused of Taking More than $1,900 in Textbooks from MU

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Ceredo, W.Va., man is accused of stealing more than $1,900 worth of textbooks from the Drinko Library at Marshall University and transferring them to a bookstore for cash payment, according to a criminal complaint from Cabell County Magistrate Court.

Jason Yarber, 31, was charged with false pretense.

According to the criminal complaint, the textbooks were taken from May 3 to July 18 of this year. The complaint alleges that Yarber received nearly $300 from Stadium Bookstore where some of the stolen books have been recovered.

As of Wednesday night, Yarber was in custody at the Western Regional Jail.

False pretense, a felony, is punishable in West Virginia with one to 10 years in prison and up to a $2,500 fine.
