UPDATE: Man Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting Trooper and Escaping Custody

JACKSON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man is facing a long list of charges after a massive manhunt in Ripley.

This incident started Thursday afternoon at the Jackson County, Ohio Courthouse.

Investigators say Joseph Myers was arguing with a woman when a trooper got involved and Myers got violent with the officer. Myers was arrested and taken to the State Police Detachment where troopers say Myers punched a trooper in the face and escaped.

Myers was on the run for several hours before being caught. A helicopter and police from several different agencies were brought in to help search for Myers.

RIPLEY, W.Va (WSAZ) -- A manhunt is over after a man allegedly attacked a West Virginia State Trooper and escaped custody.

Troopers say the man was being processed at the state police detachment in Ripley late Thursday afternoon.

He is accused of punching a state trooper in the face and escaping from the detachment.

A helicopter and police from several different agencies were brought in to search for the man.

Troopers say they were able to catch up with the man near the Ripley exit of I-77.

He was taken into custody and will be arraigned sometime Thursday night or Friday morning.

His name has not been released.

The state trooper was taken to the hospital with injuries to his face.
